Book Mail 12/16/17 by Kiwi
If any of you follow me personally, you’ll know I had a nasty car accident last month. Most of my bruises are healed, and we’re almost done with insurance. I’ve also been dealing with friends and whanau that have come in for the holiday break. But, I do have book mail and a little bit of Christmas crafting goodness for you.
My Book Of The Month Pick
I normally snag an extra book or two, but I’m already behind on TBR pile, so only one this month :-)

In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy little English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code; little chalk stick figures they leave for each other as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing will ever be the same.
In 2016, Eddie is fully grown and thinks he’s put his past behind him. But then he gets a letter in the mail, containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out his other friends got the same messages, they think it could be a prank… until one of them turns up dead. That’s when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.
Expertly alternating between flashbacks and the present day, The Chalk Man is the very best kind of suspense novel, one where every character is wonderfully fleshed out and compelling, where every mystery has a satisfying payoff, and where the twists will shock even the savviest reader.
From BookishFirst
This one was snagged on BookishFirst. It’s YA, but it’s set outside of Las Vegas, has an interesting premise, and left me asking questions like “Huh. Is there a bar in Alamo?”. Itt arrived finally last week, along with a surprise YA read, Don't Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp.

What if you could ask for anything- and get it?
In the sandy Mojave Desert, Madison is a small town on the road between nothing and nowhere. But Eldon wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, because in Madison, everyone gets one wish—and that wish always comes true.
Some people wish for money, some people wish for love, but Eldon has seen how wishes have broken the people around him. And with the lives of his family and friends in chaos, he’s left with more questions than answers. Can he make their lives better? How can he be happy if the people around him aren’t? And what hope is there for any of them if happiness isn’t an achievable dream? Doubts build, leading Eldon to a more outlandish and scary thought: maybe you can’t wish for happiness…maybe, just maybe, you have to make it for yourself.
And A Crafty Bonus ...
In case you’re wondering what the little glittery jar thing is in my featured image, here it is ...
Very easy to make. Just some craft glue (I used spray), a little thicker at the bottom then more sparing towards the top. Sprinkle in some white glitter and add an LED tealight candle. Super simple, and super cute Christmas decor!
